Winnie is missing in Moretown
Winnie, a medium-size reddish-brown dog about 40 pounds has been missing in Moretown since about 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. Her humans are Brian and Teri Maher. While much smaller than a Rhodesian Ridgeback, she resembles one according to Brian Maher. She is a year and a half old and very skinny with every rib visible. She is half-pointer, he said.
Grace Potter’s concert series to benefit Vermont flood relief
Burlington, VT- Musician Grace Potter announced on Tuesday that this year’s Grand Point North Concert Series will now serve as a benefit for local flood relief. Proceeds from Potters sets on July 27th and 28th will go toward helping Vermonters while they continue assessing damage. There will also be a silent auction to raise additional funds.
RCMS July 21 concert features new artistic director
Sunday, July 21 at 4 p.m. —ROCHESTER—The Rochester Chamber Music Society opens its July 21 concert at 4 p.m. in the Federated Church of Rochester under the direction of newly appointed Artistic Director Adda Kridler. The afternoon concert features Gabriel Boyers, violin; Adda Kridler, violin; Maren Rothfritz, viola; and Kirsten Jermé, cello. The program includes “The Lark Ascending,” a consistent favorite, written by Vaughan-Williams and inspired by the poem of the same name. Also on the program are works by John Luther Adams and Haydn.
Covered Bridge Exhibit now showing at the Brandon Museum
During the month of July, The Brandon Museum, in conjunction with the Vermont Covered Bridge Society (VCBS), is showcasing a Covered Bridge exhibit. On Saturday, July 13, VCBS Education Chair Jeanne Beaudry and her husband, Marcel Beaudry, gave presentations on Vermont Covered Bridges. Jeanne, a retired schoolteacher that taught kindergarten through 6th grade, discussed some of her time educating students and children with special needs about covered bridges. Jeanne and Marcel have held workshops where they have helped children build models of covered bridges. Marcel reflected on his memories of the Lord’s Creek Covered Bridge, of which he built a small scale model that is on display at the museum. About 28 guests were in attendance for the presentations. After the presentations, everyone was invited to explore the exhibit.

The Valley Players seek local actors for ‘The Mousetrap’
The Valley Players will hold auditions on July 28 and 30 for their October production of the classic Agatha Christie play “The Mousetrap.”. Auditions will be held on Sunday, July 28, at 4 p.m. and Tuesday, July 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the Valley Players Theater on Main Street (Vermont Route 100) in Waitsfield.
Vermont Book Award winners announced by humanities council
VERMONT - Vermont Humanities announced the winners of the Vermont Book Awards for outstanding literature in 2023 at a celebration in Montpelier earlier this year. The winners in each of their respective categories were Mary Reufle for “The Book” (creative nonfiction), Sandra Simonds for “Assia” (fiction), Vievee Francis for “The Shared World” (poetry), and Dan Nott for “Hidden Systems” (children’s literature).
