GREEN BAY — The Green Bay Police Department issued a reminder to those who live along the bay on East Shore Drive that hunting season starts Sept. 1 and they may see hunters and hear shooting.

Here's what you need to know.

    When will hunters be out?

Several waterfowl and migratory birds will open the fall hunting season on Sept. 1: early teal, early goose, and woodcock, to name a few.

Zone A — eastern Green Bay and Brown County — can begin hunting these fowl 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset, or at 5:45 a.m. Sept. 1.

Hunting times will change as the season progresses. You can check the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' website for information on waterfowl shooting hours .

    Where will hunters be?

Hunters can go after fowl starting at the edge of the bay of Green Bay from the west shore along Ken Euers Nature Trail, through the waters in front of Bay Beach Amusement Park, and up around the east shore above Mahon Creek.

In the residential area between Bay Beach park and west of Mahon Creek, hunters must stay 100 feet, or about five car lengths, from the bulkhead shoreline.

Specific open water zone boundaries for Brown County can be found on the third page of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' "Open Water Zone Boundaries" guidelines.

Hunters must stay in the water at all times to avoid trespassing.

How can you report a violation?

For violations in the water, contact the Brown County Sheriff's Office at 920-448-4200. Violations on land can be reported to the Green Bay Police Department at 920-448-3200. General hunting violations can be reported to Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources at: 1-800-847-9367.
