Green Bay Packers Will Hold Two Joint Practices in Preseason

As the Green Bay Packers work through their organized team activities this week, an interesting tidbit was shared by head coach Matt LaFleur. When the team starts preseason in August, they are going to be holding multiple joint practices.

The Green Bay Packers are going to be on the road against the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos to start the preseason. In their final game, they will be hosting the Baltimore Ravens at Lambeau Field.

In the final two weeks, the joint practices will be held with the Broncos and Ravens. Green Bay will have one joint practice with each team instead of working with them for multiple sessions as the case sometimes has been previously.

An extra practice, a high-intensity one as joint sessions normally are, in the high altitude of Denver could be taxing on the team. It will present unique challenges for LaFleur and his staff to manage the reps so guys aren’t overworked.

Fitting in another joint practice during the final week of preseason is surprising. Normally, Green Bay likes to get them out of the way early, but their schedule didn’t permit it this time around. So, they made it work to the best of their abilities.

There are benefits to practicing against other teams as it adds some intensity on the field. Going up against teammates can only be beneficial for so long, as there can be more live action in joint practices. Also, it gives players a chance to prove themselves in a more challenging setting.

This will be the second consecutive preseason that the Green Bay Packers take part in multiple joint sessions. Last year, they worked with the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals before facing off in exhibition games.

This could certainly be something that becomes the norm for the Packers. With the NFL looking to cut the preseason down even further, joint practices are a good way to ramp up the competitive juices before the regular season against unfamiliar faces.
