Analyst Shares Contract Projection For Packers Jordan Love

The biggest storyline involving the Green Bay Packers is what they will do with quarterback Jordan Love. During the 2023 offseason, as Love was preparing to take over for Aaron Rodgers, the two sides worked out an extension that essentially replaced the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

The team wanted a safeguard in place in case Jordan Love struggled. It made sense for Love to also accept the deal to have a little insurance in case things went poorly. The odds were defied in 2023, as the Packers earned a playoff spot in large part because of Love’s great play.

Heading into the 2024 season, Jordan Love is on a one-year, $13.5 million deal. He has certainly outplayed that with a stellar first season under center. The Green Bay Packers certainly don’t want to tempt fate and allow him to hit free agency in 2025.

As a result, it feels like a matter of when, not if, an extension is worked out. What could a deal for Jordan Love look like? In the opinion of Joel Corry of CBS Sports, the Utah State product should become one of the top five highest-paid players in the NFL.

“Based on the precedent set with a young Rodgers, the Packers should at least be willing to make Love the NFL’s fourth- or fifth-highest paid player. At a minimum, Love should be in the $48.5 million-to-$49 million-per-year neighborhood by approximating the midpoint of the league’s fourth- and fifth-highest paid player,” wrote Corry.

That is slightly below what Spotrac is projecting Jordan Love to earn on an extension with the Green Bay Packers. As shared by uSTADIUM on X, Love is projected to average $47.8 million annually, coming up just short of Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott and Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa.

Prescott is projected to break the $50 million baseline, earning $50.8 million. Tagovailoa is right behind him with $49.6 million annually. Rounding out the list is Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars with $46.4 million annually.

It could behoove Jordan Love to wait things out and see what his peers receive. The Jared Goff extension with the Detroit Lions gives quarterbacks a baseline to work off of moving forward.

Should the Green Bay Packers make more improvements in 2024 and Love keeps up his performance, he can essentially ask the team for a blank check. Locking in a deal now could be the last time Green Bay doesn’t have to go top of the market for Love.
