Jordan Love Comments on Packers Losing Aaron Jones

The Green Bay Packers have undergone some major changes offensively in the last few years. 2024 marked the official end of an era, as running back Aaron Jones, the longest-tenured skill position player offensively and safety blanket for Jordan Love, was moved on.

It was certainly a difficult decision for general manager Brian Gutekunst to make. The team made a splash in free agency signing Josh Jacobs away from the Las Vegas Raiders. For a few hours, it looked like they had a star-studded duo in the backfield with him and Aaron Jones.

But, it was eventually announced that the team was moving on from one of their offensive stalwarts. It had to be hard for the fan base to watch a beloved player get released. It got even worse when he signed with one of their rivals, the Minnesota Vikings.

The feeling that fans had watching it unfold is the same way players on the team felt. During his media availability at OTAs, Jordan Love opened up about the Packers moving on from their star running back.

“Yeah, it was very tough,” Love said. “Aaron Jones is such a special player. Special guy in this locker room since I’ve been here. Everyone loved Aaron, and it was very tough. It was one of those things that you can’t control.”

Aaron Jones originally joined the Packers as a fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of UTEP. His first two seasons were spent as a complementary back before taking over as the lead back in 2019.

He led the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 16 in 2019 and total touchdowns with 19. A true dual-threat out of the backfield, Aaron Jones was as dynamic running the ball as he was as a pass catcher.

One of the most productive running backs in Packers history, Aaron Jones will certainly be missed. But, Jordan Love has a deep, talented running back group to work with still.

Along with Jacobs, the team drafted MarShawn Lloyd out of USC and re-signed AJ Dillon. Emanuel Wilson is still on the roster as well, giving Matt LaFleur a versatile group of running backs to rely on in the backfield.
