Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love Had Very Comparable First Season to Aaron Rodgers

As we await the start of the 2024 season for the Green Bay Packers, how does Jordan Love’s first season as a starter compare to Aaron Rodgers’?

It was a big decision for the Green Bay Packers to end the Aaron Rodgers era before the 2023 season. With Rodgers easily being a future Hall of Famer and still playing good football, the Packers decided that it was time to reset as they did many years before when Rodgers was given the reins of the franchise after years of success with Brett Favre.

In Rodgers’ first season with the Packers, he had an excellent year under center. He totaled 4.038 passing yards, 28 touchdown passes, and 13 interceptions in 16 games. Despite the strong season from Rodgers, Green Bay finished with a 6-10 record and missed the playoffs.

What has to be exciting for the Packers is looking back at what Rodgers did in his first season and comparing that to Jordan Love in his first season as the starter. For Love in 2024, he totaled 4,159 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

As a team in Love’s first year, the Packers finished with a 9-8 record and reached the playoffs. In the playoffs, the Packers were able to upset the Dallas Cowboys on the road as more than a touchdown underdog, and then they went into San Francisco and nearly beat the 49ers.

While the game is a bit different from 2008 in Rodgers’ first season as a starter to Love’s in 2024, the franchise should be very pleased to see that Love was able to have more touchdown passes and fewer interceptions than Rodgers. Also, winning a playoff game in his first season as a starting quarterback is extremely impressive.

We all know the success that Aaron Rodgers had after 2008 with the Packers and now all eyes will be on Jordan Love to see if he can continue his upward trajectory.
