1 Move Green Bay Packers Still Need to Make

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst did a good job in the 2024 NFL offseason addressing needs on the roster. But, with potentially the youngest team in the league for a second straight year, it wouldn’t hurt to shore up some areas on the roster.

The Packers showed that you can find success even without experience in 2023, earning a playoff spot and even winning a game in the postseason. To continue building on that, they need to ensure they have reinforcements on the roster in case injuries or ineffective performance occurs.

Where could the Packers use some more help after their first round of voluntary OTAs? In the opinion of Matt Holder of Bleacher Report, the one move Green Bay still needs to make is signing an interior offensive lineman.

“The Packers are expected to reshuffle their offensive line this season, most notably moving Zach Tom to center and sliding Josh Myers over to right guard. The reason why that’s happening is because Myers has struggled at center to begin his career, so it couldn’t hurt to bring in another veteran option, especially since Green Bay lacks some depth there too,” Holder wrote.

The hole left by Jon Runyan Jr.’s departure in free agency hasn’t been filled yet. Head coach Matt LaFleur has options he can turn to but has given no indication what the alignment in the trenches will be.

Dalton Risner has been mentioned as one potential target for the Green Bay Packers. Risner isn’t the strongest run blocker, but is a proven commodity when it comes to pass protection.

Right now, Sean Ryhan is penciled in as the right guard. Rumors have swirled that Zach Tom could be moved from right tackle, as some evaluators believe he has Hall of Fame potential as a center. Moving him to the interior could open up a spot for rookie first-round pick Jordan Morgan at tackle, opposite Rasheed Walker.

Bringing in another proven veteran certainly wouldn’t hurt. At the very least, he would provide insurance and important depth. The Green Bay Packers are going to play their five best linemen, and right now right guard looks like it could be a troublesome spot.
