The Green Bay Packers have garnered a reputation for being very good at finding and developing offensive line talent. Regardless of their draft pedigree, the Packers find a way to make things work in the trenches. Their next project could very well be Donovan Jennings.

Donovan Jennings went undrafted this year after spending his collegiate career with South Florida. His path to a roster spot with the Packers got a little easier to navigate when fellow undrafted free agent Trente Jones out of Michigan retired earlier this offseason.

Jones was one of the more intriguing undrafted free agents to keep an eye on for the Packers this offseason. Now, that title has been bestowed upon Donovan Jennings, in the opinion of Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report.

“Jennings must find a role for himself. At 6’4″ and 328 pounds, with excellent athletic testing numbers, the older prospect should be able to make the shift inside after starting 45 games for USF. Jennings will turn 25 later this year, but his experience and power should provide solid depth to a Packers unit that needed reinforcements,” wrote Sobleski.

Moving inside to guard is likely the best route for the South Florida product to make the roster. Elgton Jenkins, who is locked in at left guard, is the only player on the interior whose role is set heading into offseason workouts.

Right tackle Jon Runyan Jr. departed in free agency, signing with the New York Giants. With rumors swirling that right tackle Zach Tom could be moved to center, the entire right side of the offensive line could be different for the Packers this season.

Competition will be fierce not only for the starting spots but roster spots in general. Along with Donovan Jennings, the team used a first-round pick on Jordan Morgan and Day 3 picks on Jacob Monk out of Duke and Travis Glover out of Georgia Southern.

When you account for the other holdovers on the roster, Donovan Jennings has his work cut out for him. But, as Sobleski noted, there is a need along the offensive line and there is a lot to like about the USF product.
