NFL Legend Praises Packers’ Development of Jordan Love

There is no perfect way to develop players in the NFL as everyone is different. But, when it comes to quarterbacks, the Green Bay Packers look to have figured out the formula. It is bad news for the rest of the NFL as they look to have done it again with Jordan Love.

Love had huge shoes to fill in 2023, stepping into the lineup for Aaron Rodgers. It was his fourth season as a pro after being selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. But, mop up duty and one spot start is the only playing time he had in his first three seasons in the league.

While sitting that long isn’t something some franchises can afford, the Packers had that luxury with Rodgers playing at a high level. But, they were ready to move on in 2023 and it looked to be the right decision.

After a slow start, Jordan Love closed the season on a high note. He helped lead the Packers back to the playoffs, even winning a postseason game. Green Bay’s development plan has caught the attention of a lot of people, including all-time great Tom Brady.

Brady recently made an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd and spoke about the development of Jordan Love. In his opinion, sitting and learning for as long as he did was the best thing for his career.

“He had Aaron Rodgers to watch. That’s the best type of training, in my opinion. Watch someone else do it at a very high level and then try to emulate them with your own personality. Maybe a little bit of a misnomer with the draft is that these players can come in and all of the sudden become this great professional player before they’ve really had the training and the development,” Brady said.

The strategy that the Packers used with Jordan Love is the same thing they did with Rodgers. A late first-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, Rodgers sat behind and developed with Brett Favre as the starter.

Like Favre before him, Rodgers was eventually traded to the New York Jets, opening the door for the backup to become the starter. Jordan Love seized the opportunity and is looking to help make the Packers contenders once again in the NFC.
