Green Bay Packers Bo Melton Receives Praise From Jordan Love

One of the deepest positional groups on the Green Bay Packers this season is wide receiver. The team has gone with a total youth movement in recent years, as the most experienced players are entering Year 3 of their careers.

The Green Bay Packers don’t have a traditional No. 1 receiver that will dominate targets. They have several options who can beat you on any given week depending on the defense being played against them.

One of the players who will be looking to carve out a bigger role in 2024 is Bo Melton. A seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Rutgers by the Seattle Seahawks, he played in five games last season, making one start.

When in the lineup, he played a significant role for the team. He was on the field for 44 percent of the snaps in the games he played, catching 16 passes for 218 yards and one touchdown. Melton added three rushes for 21 yards.

This season, Melton has been lauded for the hard work that he has put in. Not only has the coaching staff loved what they have seen, he has caught the attention of starting quarterback Jordan Love.

“I think anytime you can go out there and prove who you are as a player, it helps you get that confidence going,” said Love. “Bo is the same guy every day. You know what you’re going to get. Bo came in and he definitely wasn’t a starter last year, but he worked. Every day, you’d see him on the scout team making plays and getting a touchdown and celebrating, and he’s going to treat it like a game.

“He comes in and works, and that’s why it was no surprise when his number was called, and he goes out there and makes plays. You see he’s continued to do that this year, but you know what you’re going to get. He’s a consistent guy, and he goes out there and works and tries to find ways to get better.”

Melton possesses game-breaking speed, capable of taking the top off of the defense. But, it is hard to see where his snaps will come as Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks have all earned roles with their production as well.

However, all of them have different strengths to lean into. That should play into Melton’s favor, as his speed is something that will be needed in certain moments. Being able to mix and match based on matchups is not a luxury every team has, but one the Green Bay Packers will use to their advantage.
