The 2024 NFL offseason has been vastly different than 2023 for Green Bay Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary. There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding him last year for a multitude of reasons.

Not only was he seeking a long-term contract extension from the Packers, no one knew when he would be back on the field. After tearing his ACL during the 2022 season, he spent the spring and most of the summer rehabbing his knee injury.

This year, none of those distractions have been present. He has a four-year, $107.5 million extension that was signed in October, rewarding him for his production. Most importantly in 2024, Rashan Gary is healthy and he could not be happier about that.

“Man, it’s a blessing,” Gary said. “Having an offseason to do what I need to do, work on parts on my game that I didn’t have time to do last year. It’s very important and crucial to me.” (H/T Packers Wire)

That was a luxury he was not afforded last year. Even being able to get himself healthy enough to be in the lineup Week 1 of the 2023 season, it was several weeks before he was up to speed.

Rashan Gary was playing at a high level, but he was being used sparingly. He was eased into a full-time role, as he didn’t break the 60 percent snaps played threshold until nearly halfway through the season.

As we head toward training camp in a few weeks, there will be no restrictions on the Michigan product. He will be 100 percent and able to participate in everything. Expect to see a new and improved version of Rashan Gary.

“There’s always things I can get better at,” Gary said. “Just working on my overall game, run and pass.”

Being healthy was imperative this offseason as Rashan Gary is learning a new position. In Jeff Hafley’s 4-3 base scheme, he will be a defensive end. In the last few years under Joe Barry in a 3-4 scheme, he was an outside linebacker.

Getting as many practice reps as possible in the offseason will make that transition much easier to handle. He is also taking on more of a leadership role this season, as he plans to get the defensive linemen together before training camp in late July.
