Green Bay Packers Sean Rhyan Under Pressure to Perform in 2024

The Green Bay Packers’ most important training camp battle will be along the offensive line. There is currently nothing set in stone when it comes to the starting group. One player looking to earn a spot is Sean Rhyan.

Elgton Jenkins, who played left guard last season, and Zach Tom, who played right tackle, are going to be starting. Where along the line is anyone’s guess, as the Green Bay Packers have been cross-training most of the group.

Right guard is one spot that doesn’t have a holdover from last season. Jon Runyan Jr. departed in free agency, signing a deal with the New York Giants. That opening is one several players will be looking to secure.

Sean Rhyan is one of those guys. He split reps with Runyan down the stretch of 2023, but he won’t just be handed the job in 2024.

With so many options to take over, he will have to earn the starting spot. That has led to Sean Rhyan being listed as one of the Green Bay Packers entering a make-or-break season in 2024 over at Packers Wire.

“Following a disastrous rookie season in which he was suspended six games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, Rhyan finally gained some traction in year two. Originally a tackle prospect out of UCLA, he has since transitioned to the interior of the offensive line, where his toughness and strength are well-suited.

Of course, Rhyan won’t just be handed the job; he must prove he can be a mainstay upfront for the offense. He may not get a better opportunity,” Brandon Carwile of Packers Wire wrote.

There are several players that Matt LaFleur and his staff will consider at right guard. Sean Rhyan may be the leader in the clubhouse heading into training camp, but he will face stiff competition.

Rookie first-round pick Jordan Morgan and fifth-round pick Jacob Monk will both receive a shot. Royce Newman will also be competing, as a poor performance could lead to being left off the roster altogether.

Competition is going to be fierce this summer. The Green Bay Packers have a lot of options to choose from along the offensive line and Sean Rhyan will be looking to earn the right guard spot.
