Daniel Muir, who joined the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted signing in 2007, has s hared his three-word motto that guided him through his early career .

Muir, a defensive lineman, played college football for Kent State before entering the 2007 NFL Draft. He is now in the news for non-sporting reasons following the death of his son .

Despite not being drafted, he managed to secure a spot on the final roster of the Packers, alongside fellow undrafted player Tramon Williams, for the season opener against Philadelphia .

In his rookie season, Muir played three games in Dallas, Chicago and against Detroit, becoming the only undrafted rookie to make the roster out of training camp. In a chat with the Packers, Muir disclosed the mantra he used to keep himself motivated while competing with top players like 16th overall draft pick Justin Harrell.

"I've got all veterans in front of me, and they're all good and capable of playing every snap," Muir said. "And you've got a first-round draft pick who's good and capable of playing every snap also. I knew it was going to be a hard road, but I just prayed and played. That's a motto I just kept in my head. 'Pray and play.' I knew if I did that, I'd be fine."

Following the draft, Muir was one of seven free agents signed by the Packers. The list included Louisiana Lafayette quarterback Jerry Babb, Southern California fullback Ryan Powdrell, Alabama linebacker Juwan Simpson, Truman State guard Pat Murray, Oklahoma defensive end Larry Birdine and Mississippi linebacker Rory Johnson, reports the Mirror US.

However, Muir was cut from the Packers roster at the start of the 2008 season. He spent the next five years trying his luck with various NFL teams, hoping for a big break but he was constantly let go or released.

After his first stint with Green Bay he became part of the Indianapolis Colts, the St. Louis Rams, landed another gig with Colts, returned to Packers for a second term, moved onto the New York Jets , then the Kansas City Chiefs, the Houston Texans, and finally, the Oakland Raiders in 2013.

Muir found himself in hot water with the law on Wednesday when he was arrested and charged with domestic battery and obstructing justice, whilst his spouse Kristin Muir faces a charge of obstruction as well. The pair are accused of hiding their 14 year old lad Bryson from the authorities after they initiated a search for him as a missing person.

This was triggered by a call made by Kristin's mother Cheryl Wright, who raised concerns about possible abuse experienced by her grandson.

Bryson was discovered at the Muirs' family abode and the couple were arrested and are presently being held in custody without bail, under a no-contact order for their son. It's reported that Muir's residence in Logansport, Indiana, is registered under the ownership of a religious entity known as The Servant Leader's Foundation.

The group is associated with the controversial religious organisation Straightway Truth Ministries church, described as a "cult". Muir holds the title of "Pastor" within this organisation for their Indiana branch.
