Davante Adams Shuts Down Trade Rumors of Return to Packers

Star wide receiver Davante Adams has been with the Las Vegas Raiders for two seasons after a trade from the Green Bay Packers. Things have not panned out as well as he had hoped they would.

Davante Adams is learning the hard way that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Part of the reason that he left the Packers was uncertainty at the quarterback position.

When the Raiders acquired him, his college quarterback, Derek Carr, was the team’s starter. That lasted for 15 games before the team opted to move on from him.

Carr was benched and eventually released during the 2023 offseason. To replace him, the Raiders signed veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency.

The Garoppolo era ended quicker than the Carr era with Davante Adams. When Josh McDaniels was fired as head coach and replaced by Antonio Pierce, one of his first orders of business was changing quarterbacks.

Fourth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell took over as the starter. He will now be competing with Gardner Minshew for the starting job. That could be five different starting quarterbacks for Davante Adams in Las Vegas.

During that time, the Packers have made the transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love. Love looked like the real deal in his first season as the starter.

Davante Adams has said that he has no regrets about seeking a trade and landing with the Raiders. But with one of his best friends, running back Josh Jacobs, now back in Green Bay, rumors of a return picked up.

Jacobs even texted the star receiver, asking if he was thinking about a return. Recently, Davante Adams acknowledged that text and added, but shut down any rumors of coming back to the Packers.

“It was true, he did send that over. Josh is one of my best friends, man. He’s hilarious, people don’t know how funny he is. It was definitely a joke, but it was one of those jokes where he was serious because he would like that. I told him you go ahead and hold it down and I’m gonna hold it down over here. I don’t think I’ll be coming back over there,” Adams said during an appearance on Up and Adams with Kay Adams.

While any talk of Davante Adams coming back to the Packers can be put to rest, trade rumors persist. The New York Jets loom as a potential landing spot, looking to go all-in with Rodgers at the helm.
