Green Bay Packers 2024 NFL Training Camp Preview:
The Green Bay Packers, one of the youngest teams in the NFL, fell short of the NFC Divisional round against the San Francisco 49ers last season. With more experience and hunger, will they be able to make another run for the NFC crown? It’s time to dive into their training camp!
I’ll get into Lloyd more below. Regardless, Green Bay substituted Aaron Jones for Josh Jacobs , who had a down 2023 season after leading the NFL in rushing in 2022. It’s expected that Jacobs handles the majority of early-down work, though Matt LeFleur isn’t afraid to rotate the backfield. Dillon and Lloyd have their own skillsets, but if the rookie impresses in training camp, it’s not impossible he takes a bulk of those carries throughout the season.
McDuffie started in just eight of Green Bay’s 17 games last season, playing less than half of the defensive snaps (48 percent). Though he still found a way to record 86 combined tackles–56 solo–including five tackles-for-loss and three quarterback hits. The former sixth-rounder made quite the impact. Welch has primarily been a special teams linebacker through four combined seasons with Baltimore and Green Bay, tallying 27 total tackles. For that lone, McDuffie’s the likely favorite, but it’s the competition worth monitoring.
The Packers released David Bakhtiari in early March after injuries mired his last two seasons in green and gold. They haven’t found a complete answer as to who is protecting Jordan Love ‘s blindside yet. One could be Arizona rookie left tackle Jordan Morgan, who reportedly took snaps everywhere outside of center at OTAs and minicamp. Walker was the primary starting left tackle amid Bakhtiari’s injury-plagued season, doing a respectable job. He’s likely the presumptive favorite to win the job once again, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a competition at hand.
Rookie To Watch: MarShawn Lloyd, RB
Lloyd, Green Bay’s third-round selection, will be competing for snaps behind Josh Jacobs with veteran running back AJ Dillon . He’s not the bruiser that Dillon is, but he’s more explosive and offers some big play ability. Even though they want to give him as much opportunity as possible in year one, he’s competing in a crowded backfield. I don’t know if he will have ample opportunity, barring injury. Regardless, I’m intrigued by his complementary skillset in Green Bay’s backfield, which is why I’m keeping an eye on him most as a rookie entering training camp.
I think Watson’s one of the best athletes on the field on any given Sunday … but can he stay on the field ? That’s why he cracks this list. He’s played 23 games in two seasons, hauling in 69 catches for 1,033 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s one of the most explosive weapons on the field, and he’s on a team with plenty of other vertical threats. He could be a 1,000-yard receiver if he plays a full 17-game slate, but whether his body will hold up or not remains to be seen.
Why does Fantasy Pros grade Doubs outside the top-55 in wideouts? He does need to improve his route tree, but he still hauled in 69 catches for 908 yards and nine touchdowns. A part of that was predicated on Watson’s injuries, but I still think he’s the second-best target in an offense with a budding quarterback in Love. What am I missing here?
