Jordan Love might have said that he is comfortable without a true number one wide receiver on the roster. But that doesn't mean he doesn't trust some of his receivers to eventually become one. In an interview to the Bleacher Report , the Green Bay Packers quarterback was asked about his breakout candidate for the 2024 season, and Dontayvion Wicks received a huge praise after a surprisingly good season — especially for a fifth-round rookie.

"I think Dontayvion Wicks is going to have a monster year this year," Love stressed. "He was able to do a lot of phenomenal things last year. The sky is the limit for him. His confidence keeps getting more and more, and obviously the more reps he gets, the more comfortable he gets in the system, and just playing fast."

Wicks' role progressed through his first NFL season. After a slow start, something natural for a day 3 pick, he finished the season with 39 receptions for 581 yards and four touchdowns. Extrapolating the production of his six last regular season games to a full season, it would be 966 yards in a year.

If you look at separation stat charts, Wicks is among the best in the entire league. He's a technician , and his ability to run routes make him an extremely valuable piece of the offense. When Jordan Love targeted Wicks last year, he had a 117.6 passer rating.

    Young pieces

The Packers' offense is full of young weapons , but the two 2023 rookies were particularly intriguing. Second-round pick Jayden Reed led the team in receiving yards and touchdowns , and he was praised by Love as well.

"Both of those guys, rookies last year, did some awesome things," Love added. "Those are two guys that are going to ball out this year and take the league by storm."

Beyond Wicks and Reed, the Packers have Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Bo Melton going into year 3 of their careers as integral parts of the passing game.

The Packers have the least expensive wide receiver group in the entire NFL, with a combined $11.521 million cap hit in 2024 among all players under contract. That means 4.23% of the NFL salary cap.
