As the Green Bay Packers get ready for training camp, who is a player that could break out?

With the Green Bay Packers getting ready for training camp soon, there will be no shortage of players to keep an eye on. Since the Packers have a deep roster, there will be a few camp battles to keep an eye on.

As the Packers look to improve in 2024 and challenge for the NFC Title, they will need a bit more from their defense, more specifically, at the cornerback position. With Jaire Alexander as a lock in one of the spots, the second cornerback spot and beyond are very much up for grabs in terms of playing time.

With the cornerback position being one that could be filled with camp battles, Paul Bretl of Packers Wire spoke about Corey Ballentine potentially having a breakout camp. Here’s what he had to say.

As it stands right now, perhaps Ballentine isn’t a full roster lock, but in my eyes, he’s very close. He brings special teams experience to the position and was often working out as a nickel cornerback during offseason practices, giving the Packers additional depth at that role behind Keisean Nixon, something they otherwise don’t have at the cornerback position. Ballentine held his own when called upon last season, and I believe he will put together a strong performance this summer going against the second-team offense.

As mentioned, Ballentine might not be a lock for the 53-man roster, but with experience playing on special teams in addition to cornerback, he certainly will help his case. As of now, Eric Stokes is projected to start opposite Alexander, with Keisean Nixon in the nickel. For Ballentine, he has the opportunity to back up Alexander.

Going against the second-string offense should help Ballentine shine and secure his spot on the team heading into 2024. Furthermore, a good camp could result in Ballentine challenging for a lot more playing time with the Packers this season.
