Former NFL Pro Bowler Calls It A Career

When you think of Green Bay Packers legends, the first players that come to mind might be Bart Starr, Don Hutson, Ray Nitschke, Brett Favre, Reggie White, and Aaron Rodgers; however, one of the most essential Packers of the 2010s was wide receiver Randall Cobb. After 13 seasons in the NFL, he has called it a career.

Randall Cobb Announces Retirement From NFL

Randall Cobb was drafted in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. While starting his career off mainly on special teams, which included a 108-yard kickoff return touchdown, he found his role on the team within a few years. He put his name on the map late in the 2013 NFL season when he caught a 48-yard touchdown pass to win the game for Green Bay against Chicago in what would be the NFC North title.

This catch would help his career go to new heights and become a fan-favorite on the team. His 2014 season was the best of his career, as he caught 91 receptions for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. He caught 15 receptions for 178 yards and a touchdown in two games in the postseason.

Throughout the next four seasons, Cobb consistently performed on the team as the Packers’ #2 receiver behind Jordy Nelson and later Davante Adams. In his final season with the team in 2018 before his departure in free agency, Cobb put on a show against the Chicago Bears. He was the main contributor to the team’s 20-point comeback, as he had nine receptions for 142 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

After leaving Green Bay for the first time in his career, Cobb would find himself in Texas for two years, one with the Dallas Cowboys and one for the Houston Texans. He would return to the Packers following a trade request from Aaron Rodgers.

A move that excited many Cheeseheads, Cobb was not as successful in his second stint with the team as he hit below 500 yards each season and started only six total games. After two seasons in the green and gold, Cobb spent his final season with Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets, where he recorded only five receptions for 39 yards, which was the lowest of his career.

While he has not officially retired, Cobb isn’t on an NFL roster and has announced he will be on the SEC Network for college football this season. Best of luck to Randall, and what a career he had!
