Green Bay Packers: Sean Clifford Does Not Believe Jordan Love Hold Out Will Be Long

As Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers holds out, backup quarterback Sean Clifford doesn’t believe the holdout will be long.

With the Green Bay Packers starting training camp on Monday, there was one notable player absent from the field and that was star quarterback, Jordan Love. Love is seeking a new contract, and while he was in meetings and at the facility, he wasn’t on the field with his teammates.

When hearing the words “hold out” in the NFL, it generally means that things are messy between the player and the franchise. However, for the Packers, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Love being in meetings and around the team is certainly good news. It also indicates that the sides might be close.

On Monday, backup quarterback Sean Clifford spoke about the holdout. Here’s what he had to say to ESPN.

“I don’t think it’s going to take super long,” Clifford said. “It’s just what he’s got to do now. But again, it speaks volumes — he’s not in California, he’s here. I got in here at 7. His bag was already in here. He’s in early, he’s staying late. He’s doing all the little things so it’s no worry from the players that’s for sure.”

Clifford would certainly know a bit about the situation being in the quarterback’s room with Love and him saying it’s not going to be long is a good sign as well. For Clifford personally, Love being off the field gave him some more reps as he tries to secure his role as the backup quarterback.

Due to some uncertainty about his abilities, the Packers have been rumored to potentially be a team that would look to add a veteran quarterback. If Clifford can show some signs that he can be the backup with Love out, that would be excellent for the Packers.

Hopefully, the contract situation for Love will be resolved soon for both sides. However, it doesn’t seem to be a messy situation by any means as of now.
