The Green Bay Packers and quarterback Jordan Love are reportedly nearing a historic contract.

As expected, Love is currently holding out of team training camp until it happens.

"They're optimistic about getting the deal done, and they understand why he's not practicing," ESPN's Adam Schefter said Monday on the Pat McAfee Show . "That's a sign that they're trying to get this worked out. I think both sides think they can get it done."

Schefter mentioned that Love participated during the start of offseason and went through all of the drills, downplaying the issue that he's missing the opening days of training camp. "He'll be there," Schefter said of Love eventually returning to practice.

Love's contract extension is figured to be over $55 million, per Spotrac .

To be fair, Love guided the Packers to the NFC Divisional Round in his first full season as starting quarterback. He threw for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, and put together an inspiring three-TD performance to defeat the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card. He's quite deserving of a large sum, heading into the 2024-25 campaign. But to have a higher average salary than Patrick Mahomes? Almost unbelievable.

The Packers QB and the chaotic NFL market were the targets of some jokes from the football community.

The Packers and Love will likely reach an agreement soon. When that happens, though, NFL fans should know to blame the market.. Not the player.
