Just two days into training camp, and the Green Bay Packers are down to one long snapper. To make room for the addition of quarterback Jacob Eason, the Packers released rookie long snapper Peter Bowden on Tuesday.

The move leaves veteran Matt Orzech as the only long snapper on the 90-man roster. Orzech was the Packers’ long snapper for every game last season.

Bowden went undrafted out of Wisconsin. He was a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award — given to the nation’s best long snapper — during the 2023 season. He was a semi-finalist in 2022.

Bowden, who participated at the Senior Bowl, was Dane Brugler’s No. 1 rated long snapper prospect in the 2024 draft class. The Packers signed him in May.

It’s possible the Packers will return Bowden to the roster and resume the competition at long snapper once Jordan Love signs his new contract. With only Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt available, adding Eason to the mix at quarterback was required until Love signs a new deal and returns to practice.
