This Green Bay Packers Playmaker Could Disappoint in 2024

There is plenty to watch when it comes to the Green Bay Packers with training camp underway. The status of quarterback Jordan Love, who is still waiting for an extension to be worked out, is the No. 1 storyline.

Until a new deal is signed, he will not be taking part in practice. Even without their starting quarterback in the mix, a lot will be happening on the field.

Several positional battles will be taking place over the next few weeks. Players will not only be competing for a starting spot but to keep their place on the roster.

Cutdown days will eventually occur, as the coaching staff and front office will have some tough decisions to make with the roster. Every summer there are surprise moves made as players perform above expectations or underwhelm.

Who is one player that could underwhelm? In the opinion of Anthony DiBona of Pro Football Network, running back AJ Dillon could be in some trouble.

DiBona recently put together a piece highlighting one player from each team who will regress in 2024. For the Green Bay Packers, his selection was their fifth-year running back.

“Surprise! Another running back makes the list, as the Green Bay Packers revamped the backfield this offseason.

Although AJ Dillon is returning, his role will certainly be diminished. Thanks to the arrival of Josh Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd, Dillon will likely be Green Bay’s third RB on the depth chart in 2024,” DiBona wrote.

Head coach Matt LaFleur has already stated that Josh Jacobs will be the team’s lead back. Dillon will factor into the mix behind him, but unlike in recent seasons, he is not the clear-cut No. 2 option.

Passing game work will go to MarShawn Lloyd, who has been lauded for his explosiveness and athleticism. Emanuel Wilson could also factor into the mix in the backfield after making the team last season as an undrafted free agent.

Dillon needs to have a strong camp just to keep his roster spot. If a need arises elsewhere for the Green Bay Packers and Lloyd and Wilson prove they can handle things behind Jacobs, the veteran could even be on the chopping block.
