Green Bay Packers, Jordan Love Agree to Historic Contract Extension

The biggest storyline for the Green Bay Packers entering training camp this past week was the status of quarterback Jordan Love. Seeking a contract extension, he was a hold-in this week.

That meant he reported on time and was present at camp, but was not partaking in practice. No longer will that be the case as the two sides have worked out an extension.

It is a historic deal, as the Green Bay Packers and Love agreed to a four-year, $220 million contract. That deal makes him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history, as the $55 million AAV ties him with Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals.

In addition, the deal includes a record $75 million signing bonus and $155 million in new guarantees. David Mulugheta and Andrew Kessler of Athletes First negotiated the deal, per NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Green Bay Packers knew that it would be expensive to sign their franchise quarterback long-term given the boom in the market. There are also some risks involved given that Love has only one season of starting experience under his belt.

But, if he can continue building off of what he accomplished in 2023, the team’s offense is going to be in great hands. Last season, he completed 64.2 percent of his passing, throwing for 4,159 yards with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

He was red hot in the second half of the season, helping the Green Bay Packers make the playoffs. There they made history as the first No. 7 seed to win during Super Wild Card Weekend.

His massive extension came hours after the Miami Dolphins agreed to a new contract with their quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa also signed a four-year deal, paying him an AAV of $53.1 million.

That now puts him in fourth place among quarterbacks when it comes to contracts with Love moving into first. The Dallas Cowboys are going to rue waiting to get a deal done with Dak Prescott, as his price tag only continues to rise.
