Aaron Rodgers has hilarious reaction to Jordan Love becoming the highest-paid QB in the NFL

Over the last three seasons, the Green Bay Packers have made two different quarterbacks the highest-paid players in football history.

In 2022, the team gave Aaron Rodgers a three-year, $150.8 million extension, his final deal in Green Bay — which ended up being moved to the New York Jets a year later. Last Saturday, Jordan Love officially signed a four-year, $220 million deal , tying him to Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence at $55 million per season, completing a wild and unique quarterback transition process.

And Rodgers had the funniest possible reaction to the deal.

"I want to give a shoutout to Jordan Love becoming the highest paid player in the NFL. J. Love, don't spend it all in one place," Rodgers jokingly advised. "But if you do, I still have a house in Green Bay that's up for sale."

Hours later, Love was asked about the possibility of buying the house. It doesn't seem like the deal will happen, though.

"A-Rod, I won't be buying a house, man," Love said. "But I'm gonna check on it, make sure it's well taken care of."

    Relationship

Aaron Rodgers went through two sides of the same coin. Between 2005 and 2007, he was the backup to eventual Hall of Famer Brett Favre after being a first-round pick. Favre obviously didn't like the Packers' decision and didn't treat Rodgers great — once, he said being a mentor wasn't his job.

When the Packers decided to make the plan happen again in 2020, Rodgers had a different reaction, because he knows what he felt 15 years earlier. Rodgers' relationship with the Packers' front office would never be the same anymore, but he has a fairly close friendship with Love.

Over the course of last season, for example, they communicated several times, including when the Packers beat the Chicago Bears in week 1, when Rodgers got hurt, and before the playoffs .

    Contracts

Now, Jordan Love is making more than Aaron Rodgers for the first time. Rodgers actually re-did his contract after being traded to the Jets last year. He signed a three-year, $112.5 million revised deal, averaging $37.5 million per season. This is mid-level quarterback money in today's NFL market, giving the Jets the flexibility to maximize the team's chances of winning.

The contract is also structured in a way to take advantage of Rodgers' window. He counts $17.1 million against the cap in 2024 and $23.5 million in 2025 — with $35 million in dead money in 2026.

The Packers used a similar strategy , keeping Love's cap hits relatively low through 2027. It explodes in 2028, presumably when the Packers will be ready to give him another extension.
