The Green Bay Packers have a new player on the injury list: cornerback Carrington Valentine. The second-year cornerback is missing Wednesday’s practice due to a new hamstring injury, per Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com .

The seriousness of the injury is currently unknown, but his absence from the practice field could halt the early momentum built by Valentine during training camp. Coach Matt LaFleur said Valentine has done an “outstanding job” to start camp.

“CV, he continues to make plays. He had another big pick last practice. I just love how he competes,” LaFleur said Tuesday.

Valentine is battling with 2021 first-round pick Eric Stokes — another early training camp standout — for the starting job at cornerback opposite Jaire Alexander. Even if he loses the competition, Valentine figures to be an important part of the secondary for the Packers in 2024, especially given the recent injury histories of both Stokes and Alexander.

Undersized as a rookie, Valentine added weight and strength during the offseason.

Valentine was remarkably healthy as a rookie, playing in all 17 regular season games and both playoff games. He was listed on the injury just once: a questionable listing in Week 4 because of a biceps injury suffered the week prior.

The Packers added depth at cornerback ahead of Tuesday’s practice, signing rookie Don Callis and LJ Smith.

Rookie offensive lineman Donovan Jennings is also missing practice on Wednesday due to a knee injury. He started camp on the PUP list because of a knee injury.
