DNR: Pheasant, quail populations likely impacted by Missouri River flooding
(KMAland) -- Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials say flooding along the Missouri River could impact some upland game species. That's according to Iowa DNR Wildlife Biologist Matt Dollison, who discussed the flood's impact on wildlife during the latest "Outdoors in KMAland" segment. After torrential rains sparked severe flooding in northwest Iowa, those floodwaters have worked down the Missouri River, triggering flood warnings through Rulo, Nebraska. Dollison says the DNR oversees nearly 10,000 acres along the river, most of which fall west of the levee system. With it being just after the peak hatch for pheasants and nearing the peak hatch for quails in Iowa, Dollison says the floodwaters likely impacted more nests on the west side of the levees.

That’s more than twice the 30-year average. One of the fiercest killed five people and injured dozens in rural Greenfield, Iowa.
