College Park, Greenbelt and Berwyn Heights File Restraining Order to Halt Fire Personnel Reassignment
Today, the City of College Park, alongside Greenbelt and Berwyn Heights, filed a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against Prince George’s County’s Fire Staffing Reallocation Plan. This plan would reassign career personnel from Fire/EMS Stations 814 Berwyn Heights and 835 Greenbelt, putting the safety of our residents, businesses, and fire/EMS personnel at risk. Despite raising our concerns, no changes were made. We filed the TRO to allow more time for discussions and a resolution before the plan takes effect on July 1, 2024. Irrespective of the outcome, we will continue advocating for changes to protect our community. 🚒

Metropolitan Police Announce Potomac River Restrictions for Fourth of July Celebrations Between D.C. Bridges
The Metropolitan Police Department has issued a notice regarding restrictions for watercraft activity on the Potomac River during the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations. Set to ensure safety during the festivities, the guidelines specify anchorage and navigational limits effective from 9 a.m. on July 4 until 9 a.m. the following day. Boaters are advised to plan accordingly to accommodate the altered waterway access between the 14th Street Bridge and the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge.

Takoma Station Reopens Early with New Amenities, Rebuilt Interlocking
The Takoma Metrorail Station reopened to customers at the start of rail service Friday morning, two days ahead of schedule. Crews successfully rebuilt an interlocking, an area between Fort Totten and Takoma where trains can switch tracks, providing a smoother ride for customers. The switch area had long-standing drainage issues, so the team removed the existing track, fixed the problem, rebuilt the track bed, and replaced the ballast and ties that hold the track in place.
