    Greenbelt animal shelter invites your pooch to take the plunge

    GREENBELT, Md. ( DC News Now ) — As scorching temperatures continue across the DMV, pet owners will have the chance to take their furry friends for a swim to find some relief.

    The City of Greenbelt Animal Shelter will host Pooch Plunge 2024 at the Greenbelt Aquatic and Fitness Center on Saturday, Sept. 7. Two sessions are available: one from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. and one from 1:10 p.m. to 3 p.m.

    Swimming with the dogs is not allowed, so owners will have to sit this one out.

    Entry is $10 per dog and owners will need to bring exact cash only. Dog handlers must be 18 and over, and each handler is limited to one dog.

    Proof of rabies vaccination is required for entry, and tags are not accepted, according to a Facebook post .

    The event is first come, first served, with a maximum of 50 dogs per session. However, residents can pick up registration forms beforehand at the Aquatic Center or at the Police Booth during the Labor Day Festival.
