San Francisco school district hiring freeze concerns parents
Budget cuts continue to impact the San Francisco Unified School District. Families at 10 elementary schools were notified the district will not fill their vacant assistant principal positions for the 2024-25 school year. The district says the move is part of a larger hiring freeze. Boris Amchislavsky's son school was one of the 10 impacted. Meet America’s high schoolers vying for Olympic Gold
All eyes are on Paris, which is hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics for the first time in a century from July 24 to Aug. 11. Among the athletes competing on Team USA this summer, several are still in high school making their mark in sports ranging from gymnastics to skateboarding. UC regents committee hold public comments session, vote on Health CEO bonuses
The UC Board of Regents Health Services Committee heard public comment from community members and voted to alter the bonus structures of UC Health CEOs on Tuesday. The board held its bimonthly meeting July 16 through July 18 at UC San Francisco. At its first session of the meeting, students and community members from across the UC shared public comments for the regents’ health services committee.

Professor Jennifer Chatman Appointed Interim Dean of Berkeley Haas
UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Ben Hermalin announced that Professor Jennifer Chatman, renowned for her pioneering research in organizational culture, has been appointed interim dean of Berkeley Haas. Chatman’s appointment will take effect on August 1, 2024, following Dean Ann Harrison’s decision to step down at the end of July after a successful five-year term. Harrison will continue as a half-time faculty member at Haas, focusing on teaching and research.
Oakland students invited to a free summer camp at SLAC

Incoming fifth and sixth grade students from Ile Omode School in Oakland got to experience a free science summer camp at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park for a week. Throughout the CORE Science Institute summer camp, students worked on multiple projects focused on energy, physics and engineering in a national facility.
