A Greenbrier police officer fired at a vehicle late last week after the driver attempted to hit the officer while fleeing the scene of a traffic stop.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called at the request of District Attorney General Robert Nash to investigate the shooting.

The officer pulled a Nissan Maxima over Friday evening in the 100 block of Candy Lane, according to a statement from the TBI. A woman got out of the passenger side of the car, then the driver, identified as Jalon Devon Smith, fled the scene and "attempted to hit the officer," the statement said.

The officer fired at the car as Smith fled.

    The woman was not identified.

Smith was arrested Saturday afternoon, according to Robertson County jail records.

Smith was charged with evading arrest, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, assault against a first responder and driving on a suspended license.
