CLARKSVILLE, TN – Here’s a look at the top local news stories from Clarksville Now this week. Following push from parents, CMCSS elementaries create longer recess times: Currently, CMCSS schools provide only 15-20 minutes of outside recess time. For the 2024-25 school year starting next month, that has been extended to 30 minutes.
Putnam Affordable Pet Treatment Event Monday
The Friends of Cookeville and Putnam County Animals are hosting an event to provide affordable treatments and screenings for pets in the community. The events are called H.E.A.R.T.S which stands for Helping Every Animal Receive Treatments and Services. The event will consist of treatments such as vaccines and lab work. President of the organization Sarah Hawlik said they are hosting the event as they saw a need for affordable pet care in the community.
APSU raises over $12.6 million in 2024 fiscal year, topping national trend for 3 years
CLARKSVILLE, TN – Austin Peay State University received 6,094 gifts and pledges from 2,553 donors and achieved a fundraising total of over $12.6 million during the 2024 fiscal year. Over the last three years, APSU has had a 6.2% increase in its number of donors and a 39% increase in its number of gifts.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Nashville Police are investigating a shooting in south Nashville early Saturday morning, officers said. Officers responded to an Exxon gas station around 2:40 a.m. for a shooting call. They found a man had been shot and had bullet holes in his car. Officers said the shooting happened somewhere else, and the victim then drove to the gas station.
