GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Greeneville/Greene County Boys and Girls Club is building a brand new facility that will be twice the size of its current one. The new facility will span 27,000 sq. ft., compared to the current building which is only about 10,000 sq. ft.

Executive Director of the Greeneville/Greene County Boys and Girls Club Scott Bullington told News Channel 11 that with the extra space, the club can expand the programs they offer.

“In the current facility, we have 24 computers, but we’re going to have 48 in our computer lab there,” said Bullington. “We’re going to have a STEM room, CTE, a dedicated teen room which we don’t have now, and we’ll have a teaching kitchen that will be large.”

Other additions included at the new facility are two new gymnasiums and a large auditorium. Bullington said because they are limited on space, they have experienced challenges enrolling more kids, but that will change when they move into the new building.

“We will be able to double our enrollment and hopefully won’t have the waiting list like I have this summer at the Boys and Girls Club,” said Bullington.

Shannon Shelton, a staff member at the facility, said adding new programs will be beneficial for the kids that are enrolled.

“It’s a big deal, educational-wise, but also with their creativity,” said Shelton. “We want to make sure that we get to reach all different kids of, all different aspects and backgrounds.”

Parts of the gymnasium at the new facility are ready, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Bullington said he hopes the new facility will be ready by the start of 2025, as long as weather permits.
