Disruptive incident at Baraga prison brings in teams from Alger County
BARAGA, MI— Help had to be brought into the Baraga Correctional Facility on Friday, after some prisoners became disruptive. The Michigan Department of Corrections says inmates became disruptive and loud in one of the Level V units. Officers responded, but the prisoners did not immediately follow directions and some threatened staff.
Baraga County Chamber of Commerce establishes Dynamo Young Business Grant program
L’ANSE, Mich. (WLUC) - New Baraga County businesses have a new grant opportunity to make use of. The Baraga County Chamber of Commerce has opened its Dynamo Grant Program. The chamber is offering three, up to $5,000 grants to young businesses to get them on their feet. All funding comes from the chamber.

SOUTH RANGE — Despite having their game delayed, the Keweenaw All-Stars and Penokee Range All-Stars battled to the final batter in the District 11 Little League Minors tournament Monday. Penokee Range earned the right to return to the Range Town Veterans Memorial Park Tuesday night, thanks to a 7-6 win.
Roland Clisch
BARAGA, MI Roland James Clisch, age 79 of Baraga, MI passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Bayside Village, L’Anse, MI. He was born in Baraga on August 26, 1944, the son of the late David D. and Rose F. (Ellenich) Clisch. Roland graduated from Baraga High School in 1962. He proudly served in the United States Air Force with the 551st Strategic Missile Squadron from 1962 until 1966. Roland retired from the State of Michigan Park Service in 2002 with 34 years of service. He spent most of his career at the Porkies. He worked in park maintenance, built cabins, was certified in water and wastewater treatment and worked on the ski hill. One of his most challenging projects was construction of the Summit Peak Tower where building materials had to be brought in by helicopter. He enjoyed reading, deer hunting, and was an avid gardener. In the winter months he enjoyed MTU hockey, attending games for 45 years. He was a member of St Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga.

76th annual Strawberry Festival kicks off with fish boil, cake walk, free vision screenings
CHASSELL, Mich. (WLUC) - Friday marked the first day of the 76th annual Copper Country Strawberry Festival. The festival kicked off with the Chassell Lions Club selling strawberry shortcakes at 9 a.m. An old-fashioned cake walk, 88 vendors selling different items, and a fish boil dinner followed throughout the day.
