Downtown Greensboro celebrates ‘Fun Fourth’ with Freedom Run, festival and 3 weddings

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — People came out in droves to celebrate the Fourth of July in downtown Greensboro at Fun Fourth.

The day-long event included a Freedom Run at 7 a.m. and Freedom Fest from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with hundreds coming out to enjoy the free event stretching down Elm Street.

There were a dozen food trucks and an area of inflatables and carnival games. Locals and visitors walked up and down the street checking out vendors, street performers and three stages with live music.

During Freedom Fest, three couples got married and said “I do” in front of the festival crowd.

After the festival, people got to enjoy fireworks at First National Bank Ballpark Stadium following the Grasshoppers ballgame.

Many said Fun Fourth is their favorite event of the year in Greensboro.

“The Fourth of July has always been my favorite holiday,” said Christian Holtorf, Fun Fourth Freedom Fest attendee. “I’ve loved it ever since I was a kid. I go to parades all the time when I was back in Ohio, moved here in 2010 and been on the fourth every year. I never miss it.”

Ann Donnell, another Fun Fourth Freedom Fest attendee, said, “Every year, this is tradition for us. Every year, just to celebrate the fourth with Greensboro.”
