Talk is cheap – Discipleship takes commitment

We all know this to be true. It is easy to talk about what you will or should do. However, saying and doing are two completely different things.

Jesus called his followers to take up their cross and to follow him. The disciples knew what he meant. By following Jesus it was a real possibility that one could lose their life.

We all know that true discipleship takes a real commitment. A commitment to remain faithful, not to give in to the pressures of this world, remaining steadfast and compassionate in a culture gone astray. The early Church knew this persecution very well and yet remained faithful in spreading the Gospel throughout the world.

As followers of Christ, let us take up our cross and let nothing stand in our way. With a made-up mind to follow after Jesus, turning back is not an option. Let us not waste a moment of our time by endless chatter of saying “would have – could have – should have,” but with faith that can move mountains, with transforming power and love, not just for our lives, but also for the lives of others as we boldly proclaim the good news, Jesus is Lord.
