The Greenville All Stars showcased their talent and determination over the 4th of July weekend, at the Dixie Softball State Tournament in Troy, with several teams achieving remarkable victories and others demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship.

“These girls were amazing,” said 12U Coach Ron Howell. “Although they did not come home as champions, I hope the city appreciates them the way we do.”

The tournament kicked off with the 10U Greenville All Stars defeating Dallas County in a decisive 22-2 victory. The 12U team mirrored this success, beating Valley Grande 21-4. Meanwhile, the 19U team crushed Montgomery Grey 18-0, setting up for a rematch that would determine their spot in the Dixie Softball World Series.

The Greenville Dixie Debs All Stars emerged as state champions after decisive victories against Montgomery Grey in a best-of-three series with scores of 18-0 and 13-3. They will now compete in the upcoming Dixie World Series in Louisiana.

“This will be our second year that the Debs are going to the World Series,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jerome Harris. “And we’re planning on coming back as champions.”

The 12U team continued their winning streak, defeating Montgomery America 6-1 to advance in the winners’ bracket. However, not all teams shared the same fate. The 10U and 15U teams faced tough losses to Montgomery America and Troy, respectively, leading them to elimination games.

The 10U and 15U teams’ journeys ended after losses to Dothan and Troy. The 12U team fought valiantly but ultimately fell to Dothan 9-7 in an elimination game, concluding their season with a commendable 6-2 record.

“All of our girls were phenomenal,” Harris said. “Overcoming the adversity, the rain and the time delays, they weathered the storm and competed. We didn’t have the outcome we wanted but there’s always next season. Saying I’m proud is an understatement. I just really appreciate the coaches, the parents, the volunteers, and the community.”

Coach Howell emphasized the significance of the sportsmanship trophy awarded to the 12U team. “They practiced hard and spent the bulk of their summer on this endeavor together,” Howell said. “Then they left everything on the field and represented Greenville admirably. Their sportsmanship was unmatched, highlighted by them bringing home a trophy for such.”

Reflecting on the season, Howell praised each player’s dedication and growth.

“I wish I could go on about each girl individually, because they deserve that recognition; however, I’ll simply say that the coaching staff is proud. Proud to have coached them, proud to have had the opportunity to teach them and proud to have simply been a part of this special team. The future is bright!”
