Sheriff's office: Two dead, one injured in shooting

Two people are dead and another person was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville after a shooting Sunday in the early morning hours in the rural southern part of Edgecombe County, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

According to the sheriff’s office, a call came in shortly after 3 a.m. about a shooting on Branchwood Lane, which is south of Tarboro and in the Old Sparta area between Pinetops and Conetoe.

Deputies found the two deceased people at the scene — Odis Draughn III, 29, and Tellton Jones, 28. A third person had suffered a gunshot wound, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said that detectives are pursuing leads in the case and that anyone with any additional information should call (252) 641-7911 and ask to speak with a deputy.
