Gavin Williams, who pitched for ECU from 2018-21, is back in the big leagues.

The Cleveland Guardians announced late Monday that the former ECU right-hander has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Williams had been working back from an elbow injury since spring training and hasn’t pitched for the big league club all season.

Instead, he had been making several rehab starts in recent weeks.

Williams made his Major League debut last season but has not returned to the Cleveland Guardians’ rotation as his rehab stint continues. He made six rehab starts in the minor leagues this season. He struck out 24 batters in 17.0 innings, while allowing nine earned runs.

Williams threw 82 innings and made 16 starts for the big-league club last season.

    Alec Burleson, St. Louis Cardinals

Alec Burleson went 1-for-3 with an RBI single on Sunday to help the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-0 win over Cincinnati.

The former East Carolina outfielder and current St. Louis Cardina has four RBIs with three hits and one walk over his past five games. Burleson is batting .296 with three home runs and 14 RBIs over his past 15 games. He’s scored 12 runs over that same stretch.

So far in 2024, Burleson is batting .278 with a career-high 12 home runs, 38 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

The Cardinals are 43-40 and in second place in the NL Central division, six games behind Milwaukee for the lead.

Playing a mix of right field and designated hitter, the former Pirate (2018-20) is in his third season with the Cardinals.

Connor Norby, Baltimore Orioles (Triple-A Norfolk)

The former ECU infielder from 2019-21 was named to the Baltimore Orioles’ taxi squad, which means he’s in a reserve role for the big-league club as the Orioles navigate a road trip and injuries. The designation doesn’t mean he will play or be called up, but instead has a chance to make an impact if the opportunity arises.

Norby already had a short stint in MLB this season and he went 3-for-14 with a home run before the Orioles sent the infielder back to Triple-A Norfolk. Norby is batting .285 with 11 home runs, 45 RBIs, nine stolen bases and 55 runs scored in 66 games with the Tides.

Norby has been one of the best players in Baltimore’s system over the past couple of years and his name routinely shows up in trade rumors.

He took advantage of his short time in the major leagues and his first hit was a two-run home run that came in a 10-1 win over Toronto on June 4. Norby could find his way back to Baltimore, or the top-rated prospect could be on the move as the trade deadline looms at the end of the month.

Carson Whisenhunt, San Francisco Giants (Triple-A Sacramento)

Currently playing at Triple-A Sacramento, the former ECU pitcher (2020-22) is doing well at the highest level of the minor leagues.

The left-hander had a tough outing on June 30, allowing seven earned runs and eight hits over 4.0 innings. He struck out four and walked two. Whisenhunt owns a 5.91 ERA over 17 starts. He has 88 strikeouts in 67.0 innings with 38 walks. Whisenhunt owns a 2-5 record.

Whisenhunt pitched at three minor league levels last season and dominated them all with big strikeout numbers (83 punchouts in 58.2 innings). He is the Giants’ second-rated prospect who was selected to play in the Futures Game a year ago.

Zach Agnos, Colorado Rockies (Double-A Hartford)

Agnos, a former ECU shortstop (2020-22) and current reliever in the Rockiers’ system, was promoted to Double-A Hartford on June 26. This is his third level in the minors this season after being promoted to High-A Spokane earlier this year.

Agnos, who led the minor leagues in saves with 27 last season in low-A Fresno, has 10 saves so far in the 2024 season.

Agnos has pitched in two games for the Yard Goats and has not allowed a run in 2.0 innings. He’s allowed two hits with two strikeouts and one walk, while picking up one hold. He owns a 9-4 record with a 1.69 ERA, 101 strikeouts and 37 saves in two professional seasons.

Bryson Worrell, Atlanta Braves (Double-A Rome)

The former ECU outfielder (2018-22) has played at four minor league levels this season. He returned to High-A Rome on Monday after a stint in Triple-A and Double-A (since June 20).

Worrell is batting .202 with six home runs and 24 RBIs in 38 games across four levels this season. He has also walked 11 times. Most of his action this season came in Single-A where he played in 26 games for Single-A Rome. He also played two games for Triple-A Gwinnett, where he went 2-for-7 with a home run, a double and two RBIs.

Josh Moylan, New York Yankees (High-A Hudson Valley)

The former ECU first baseman (2021-23) is in his second season of pro ball and first full year after joining the Yankees farm system after playing for ECU last season.

Moylan is batting .259 with three home runs and 21 RBIs. He has 50 hits and 29 runs scored.

Moylan has been tearing up Single-A pitching over the past two weeks. He is riding a nine-game hitting streak that includes 15 hits, three doubles, two home runs and six RBIs.

Josh Grosz, New York Yankees (Single-A Tampa)

The former ECU right-hander (2021-23) was returned to Single-A Tampa after a brief stint in Double-A. Grosz has a 2-7 record with a 6.05 ERA across three levels this season.

Grosz has struck out 80 batters over 60.0 innings.
