    DWI Roundup: Man charged after driving into Bell Arthur ditch

    A Greenville man was charged with driving while impaired after he drove his vehicle into a ditch in southwestern Pitt County.

    At 10:55 p.m. July 22, the State Highway Patrol responded to an unspecified stretch of Bell Arthur Road where a 1994 Lincoln passenger car had crossed the center line and careened off the left side of the roadway into a ditch. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kevondrae Alstevenson Key Walton, 26, of 1827 Fred Drive, Greenville.

    Walton told a trooper he consumed alcohol and that he was driving the wrecked car. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and red, glassy eyes. His blood alcohol content was .14.

    Walton was charged with driving while impaired and booked into the Pitt County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond. He was later released on bond.

    Walton’s arrest was one of 12 recorded in Pitt County between July 10-22. Court documents pertaining to the other 11 arrests contained the following details and allegations:

    Jose Gil Castillo-Bermudez, 47, of 3139 Mobleys Bridge Road, Grimesland, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about 2:30 a.m. July 14 on an unspecified stretch of N.C. 43 for reckless driving. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, red, glassy eyes and a blood alcohol content of .11.Kenneth Earl Graham, 60, of 115 Beech Lane, Washington, was involved in a wreck about 8 p.m. July 19 on Herman Garris Road near Portertown Road in Greenville. He drove his 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck off of the right side of the road and struck a ditch. Graham showed signs of impairment on field sobriety tests and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. He had red, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his person. His blood alcohol content was .12. Graham has a prior conviction for driving while impaired from an Oct. 31, 1987, incident in Beaufort County.George Deon Holley, 40, of 6064 Pine Glen Trail, Durham, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about 11:30 a.m. July 10 on an unspecified stretch of I-587. He had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on his person and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. Two open containers of alcohol were found in his vehicle. His blood alcohol content was .13. Holley has a prior conviction for impaired driving from March 28, 2013, in Martin County.Kaymya Darsha Jenkins, 25, of 2031 Manning Road, Greenville, was stopped by Winterville police at 2:03 a.m. July 10 in the 600 block of Worthington Road. A reason for the stop was not specified. She had red, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on her person. Her blood alcohol content was .16.Leander Omarshe Jenkins, 32, of 1463 Burford St., Greenville, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol at 8:55 p.m. July 19 on N.C. 11 near Big Oak Road for driving 85 mph in a 60 mph zone. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and a blood alcohol content of .13. He refused other standard field sobriety tests.Tonya Yvette Jones, 44, of 4204 Barrington Drive, Greenville, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about 6:38 p.m. July 11 for a seatbelt violation on an unspecified stretch of Davenport Farm Road in Winterville. She had red, glassy eyes and swayed. Her blood alcohol content was .09. Jones has a prior conviction for impaired driving from a Sept. 21, 2010, incident in Craven County.Curtis Ray Little, 64, of 805 Olivia Drive, Greenville, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about 1:30 p.m. July 19 on N.C. 903 after he ran off the right side of the roadway. Little was unsteady on his feet, slurred his speech and had difficulty with his motor skills. He also repeated himself and swayed while standing. He fell asleep inside the patrol car and admitted to using a controlled substance. A blood test was administered to determine impairment.Adan Lopez, 48, of 5148 Norman Drive, Grifton, was found asleep at the wheel of a vehicle by the State Highway Patrol about 2:40 a.m. July 21, at the BP Gas Station, 559 Queen St., Grifton, near N.C. 118. Beer cans were found in the vehicle’s center console. Lopez had red, glassy eyes and slurred his speech. His blood alcohol content was .14.Jose Paniflo Martinez, 29, of 613 Daniel Drive, Greenville, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about midnight July 15 for failure to maintain lane control on an unspecified stretch of N.C. 33. He admitted to consuming alcohol and had red, glassy eyes with a strong odor of alcohol on his person. His blood alcohol content was unavailable.Jessie Lee Mercer, 36, of 133 Holiday Island Drive, Garner, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about midnight July 13, for driving 82 mph on VOA Site C Road. Mercer had red, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his person. His blood alcohol content was .11.Trevon Moore, 25, of 1306 Elmshadow Drive, Henrico, Virginia, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol and Pitt County Sheriff’s Office at 1:55 a.m. July 11 on an unspecified stretch of U.S. 264. A caller told officers that Moore was “all over the road.” Moore was located parked on the shoulder of the highway. Law enforcement noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his person and an open container of alcohol was inside the vehicle. When officers attempted to arrest Moore he refused to get into the sheriff’s office patrol car. He also kicked a state trooper who placed him inside the patrol car. Moore refused a blood alcohol test.
