CLEMSON — Clemson football scored 35 points in the first quarter against Appalachian State on Saturday to set the most points scored in a first quarter in team history.

The Tigers tied the program record for points in any quarter, achieved three times previously.

Clemson outgained App State 349-58 in the quarter as it produced five touchdowns. Quarterback Cade Klubnik went 11-for-11 for 233 yards with three touchdowns. He passed to freshman wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. for a 76-yard touchdown, to tight end Jake Briningstool for a 41-yard score and to wide receiver Antonio Williams for a 29-yard touchdown.

Klubnik also rushed for a score, and running back Phil Mafah erupted for an 83-yard rushing touchdown.

It was a pleasant sight for Clemson after it failed to score a touchdown against Georgia last week. It was the fourth time under Tigers coach Dabo Swinney that his team did not reach the end zone.
