The Greenville City Council has voted unanimously to approve the city's budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The original budget proposed totaled 272.5 million dollars; that budget amount was approved without any cuts being made.

The largest portion of the budget will go towards the city's payroll. A high priority in the budget is public safety. The budget allocates funds for improvements for fire stations and upgrades to the city's emergency dispatch system. The budget allows for new police equipment and vehicles, as well as the hiring of more officers.

Affordable housing also remains a budget priority which will include support initiatives for the homeless and low income housing. The new budget also sets funding aside for pedestrian and bike safety improvements. The new budget will be effective as of July 1st.
