After a run of over 100 years, a small Upstate newspaper will be closing its doors. The Greer Citizen has announced plans to cease operations at the end of this month.

Owner William Buchheit cited the decline in print journalism's popularity and difficultly being financially sustainable. The Greer Citizen was founded in 1918.It was purchased by the Buchheit Family in 2006.

The closure marks another case of smaller outlets being unable to compete with larger corporate newspaper outlets around the GSP area.
