A local orchestra is inviting the community to jam out to some “American Classics” this summer during a concert featuring composers like Aaron Copland, Florence Price and Ernest Bloch.

The Mt. Hood Pops Orchestra, under the direction of guest conductor Cris Mikkelsen, will take the stage at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the Mt. Hood Community College Theater, 26000 S.E. Stark St. The show will feature a performance by cello soloist Annie Harkey-Power.

Tickets are $15 and available at the door the day of the show.

The Mt. Hood Pops is a full symphonic orchestra consisting of musicians ranging in age from early teens to over 80. It is open to any qualified musicians who love creating and performing music for their neighbors across East Multnomah County.

Some of the members have professional affiliations, like music teachers and church musicians, while others are students or members from other walks of life who enjoy gathering once a week for rehearsal.
