For many, no mall experience is complete without a stop at the food court for items like a soft pretzel or a smoothie. But now a new co-branded store has brought both the popular Jamba Juice and Auntie Anne’s menus to Sandy.

What started out as a freshman-year business class project for Micaiah Turin, turned into an actual business venture after he brought his research to his parents, Kim and Tony Turin.

“It turned out to be a pretty good little business,” Micaiah explained. “We really like Jamba (as a family) and it seemed like we’d have a pretty good market for it here in Sandy.”

For Kim, Micaiah’s mom, this was a chance for her children to learn business with hands-on experience and “set them up for their future.”

Kim and Tony own three optometry clinics, including the Mt. Hood Eye Care in Sandy, as well as four short-term rental properties around the state.

“This was a chance to do something as a family, and we like Jamba,” Kim said. “And Micaiah is very business minded. We’re backing him in this and then later he’ll end up taking the business over fully.”

Currently, with the support of his parents, Micaiah works as assistant manager and co-owner of the store at 36725 Highway 26. He’s accompanied by a staff of 25-30 employees, 80% of whom are local teens.

When the store opened the week of July 17, the new Sandy location shattered records for opening week sales for any co-branded store. The Sandy shop is also one of only two cobranded Jamba Juice/Auntie Anne’s locations in the state.

The store is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. For more information, visit locations.jamba.com/or/sandy/36725-hwy-26.

While the store uses the corporate menus of Jamba Juice and Auntie Anne’s, the Turins who own the business are very local.

Micaiah is going into his sophomore year at Sandy High; Tony grew up in Welches and has been back living in Sandy with Kim and their children for 10 years. Kim herself is a Gresham native and Barlow High graduate, and she still coaches varsity volleyball at her alma mater.

The family looks forward to being involved in the community through this business, as they have with Mt. Hood Eye Care, and being able to provided delicious smoothies and pretzels even closer to home.
