When planning any kind of business, it is necessary to have solid financial planning. It takes time to develop a client base and to even turn a profit. Many professionals will tell you not to expect to make actual money on the business for years. With banks hoarding money with tighter loan requirements, most individuals seeking out financial assistance from banks are on a tighter leash and must show some kind of profitable timeline in a shorter window. But even then, few are expected to move into the black in less than half a year. And yet, one Tempe taco restaurant has closed down after only four months of operation.

In a race for one of the fastest restaurant runs ever in the Valley, Tacos & Craft in Tempe might take the cake. Located at 4715 South Rural Road, the restaurant closed unexpectedly after four months. It was a surprise, as the restaurant was posting images on its social media profile after the restaurant closed. Based on a note posted on the restaurant’s front door, stating, “Due (to) circumstances beyond our control as of July 5th this location will be permanently closed.” And yet, despite this, the Facebook page was posting images all the way up until the 9th. It is possible those were planned posts, but it still begs to question of what caused the restaurant to immediately pull the plug on itself.

The taco restaurant, featuring scratch-made tacos and craft beverages failed to make an impact on the local community, with less than 100 followers and zero Facebook restaurant reviews, though, at four months, that isn’t entirely unexpected (though most restaurants will at least have friends and family offer reviews to help bolster the display numbers). However, it did have solid reviews on other websites, including a 4.8 on Google and a 4.6 on Yelp.

The restaurant website has been pulled, which is problematic for the planned second location that was supposed to come later in the year. With a suddenly closed original restaurant as well as a rapidly deleted website, all signs point to the future restaurant being nothing more than a mirage.

The sudden closure seemed to catch many locals off guard, as they turned to post updates on both Google and Yelp. They also questioned how a restaurant could close after only a few months of operation and lamented their frustration and confusion.

Chances are this mystery will remain just that. However, at least you won’t have to drive far for another taco.
