When you want to head out to a local hangout, watch a sporting event, and sink your teeth into a properly made burger, there’s sometimes nothing better than a pub around the corner. From perfectly crispy french fries to wings and a frosty pint to wash it down, it is hard to beat. Especially when hanging with your friends or cheering with other fans. However, if you’re in Chandler, there is now one fewer spots in town for this upcoming football season, as a popular sports grill officially closed up shop over the weekend.
On Saturday, July 13, Fat Willy’s Sports Grill at 4850 South Gilbert Road (Suite 4) closed its doors for the last time. After serving the greater community for a dozen years, the restaurant location is no more. Fat Willy’s, which still operates a half-dozen restaurants around the state, offered some advanced warning to its closure, but upon shutting down on Saturday, the brand immediately whitewashed any existence of the restaurant.
There is no longer a link to the Chandler restaurant on the restaurant’s main website, and the Facebook link has been deleted as well. While this does help avoid any confusion, it makes it impossible to track down any old photographs you might have wanted from the previous Facebook page.
Even so, the restaurant best known for serving burgers, pizza, and craft brews while featuring local decor is no more. So, if you were a patron of the South Gilbert Road location, you’ll either need to find a new spot or check out one of the other Fat Willy’s in the Valley.
Five metro Phoenix locations remain (with a sixth in Tucson). Remain restaurants include 9937 East Baseline Road, 650 North Hawes Road, and 2250 South Buttercup in Mesa, 34406 Black Mountain Parkway in Cave Creek, and 151 East Williams Field Road (Suite D112) in Gilbert.
If you have never been to a Fat Willy’s before, the starter's menu includes favorites like boneless wings, cheese curds, pretzel dough balls, potato skins, chips and salsa, and a nacho platter. The burgers menu features a cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, black and blue burger, mushroom Swiss burger, Southwestern burger, and a quesadilla burger.
Other menu options include the avocado turkey wrap, California chicken sandwich, classic Reuben, chicken tenders, fish tacos, chicken and potato bowl, New York strip steak, plus pizzas like the Fat Willy’s Special, meatlovers, BBQ chicken pizza, and Hawaiian.
