With the cost of grocery shopping increasing with every visit, for many, it’s now a better value to buy in bulk. Sure, purchasing 100 rolls of toilet paper at one time will (hopefully) hold you and your family for some time, the price per unit is almost always a better deal. There are a handful of wholesale warehouse stores around metro Phoenix, with a sprinkling of Sam’s Club and Costco stores here and there. However, if one isn’t close to you it means dealing with Valley traffic and driving across several towns in order to shop. All of that will change in the near future with the announcement of an all-new Sam’s Club coming to Tempe.

The Tempe Marketplace is a massive shopping center off the interchange loops of the 101 and 202. Located at 2000 East Rio Salado Parkway, it is over 1.3 million square feet. With over 100 stores to visit, it’s possible to spend an entire day walking around, shopping, and stopping by the various restaurants. However, if you wanted to handle all of your bulk shopping needs, that was never a possibility.

In May, final approval for the addition of a Sam’s Club at the Tempe Marketplace was given, and now construction can begin. With over 150,000 square feet of bulk shopping, it will make it easier for residents around Tempe to handle all of their grocery shopping needs in one place. Initial plans for Sam's was submitted back in December of 2023, though it now has full approval.

If you stop by the Marketplace you can already see construction beginning on where the new Sam’s Club will go. However, for a facility of its size, it’s not going to go up overnight. The internal infrastructure of the facility does take time to complete, so chances are, the Sam’s Club won’t officially be open to the public until this time next year.

The grocery store will also have its customary gas station out front, which offers discounted gas for members.

The addition of the massive wholesale retail outlet is not the only new resident coming to the Tempe Marketplace in the coming months. You will be able to stock up on your baked goods with the launch of Nothing Bundt Cakes (bakeries do love their puns), while Enclave Salon Suites and Happy Beauty will add new options for beauty products and personal style attention inside of the shopping center.

The three other locations will open at various points in the coming weeks, as those shops already have storefronts
