Finding a choice cut of meat isn’t as easy as some might think. At least, if you’re picky over your meat (or looking for unique cuts). The big-chain grocery stores often offer large quantities of products, but large quantities don’t always equate to quality. Even then, if you are looking for grass-fed beef, are hoping for a unique cut typically not found en mass, or you’re interested in a sausage or chorizo blend different from the bulk offerings, your best bet is to stop by a local meat market or butcher shop. While there are plenty of butcheries around Tucson, one in particular just opened while offering a complete lunch and dinner menu.

One of the best ways to test out the quality of a meat market’s product is to eat there first. This way, before you invest in a large rack of ribs or purchase a few pounds of pork chops, you have tasted it first hand and understand the quality. The all-new Forbs Meat Company at 747 South Sixth Avenue here in Tucson offers not only a wide selection of meat but has a decent lunch and dinner menu spread as well.

The lunch and dinner menus will rotate seasonally. However, at the moment, the tapas portion of the menu includes oysters, chef’s board (rotating cured meats, cheese, pickled vegetables, herb tallow bread, and jams and mustards), scallops, aji verde shrimp, seasonal salad, marinated asparagus, lamb and goat, and Chilean glazed Scottish salmon. Beef cuts include ribeye, New York, hanger, and skirt. You also have your choice of frites, seasonal salad, oyster mushrooms, or marinated asparagus.

Sauce sides include aji verde, wasabi cream, creamy dijon, roasted garlic aioli, curry, gravy, pepper demi, and chimichurri.

In terms of meats, you’ll be able to find just about any cut of beef or pork imaginable. And if you have a specialty cut (such as one you found in another country while traveling but can’t seem to find it in local stores), you can pop in and ask. Chances are, they’ll be able to assist you in the cut. You’ll also find all kinds of seafood, chorizos, lamb, goat, not to mention all kinds of local craft beer.

If you want to stop by for a meal or to check out what is available, Forbes Meat Company is open seven days a week from 8 AM until 9 PM. Lunch is served between 11 AM and 3 PM and dinner runs from 5 PM until closing.
