People love a good mashup. Whether with music or food, when two things come together to forge something new, it brings in the curious. All around town, you’ll find fusion cuisine. It merges two unique flavors together in order to create something both different and yet ironically familiar. The blending of Mexican food and Japanese sushi isn’t only found in Tucson. However, it’s the kind of blend that only one or two restaurants are able to pull off in a community. For the Old Pueblo, that restaurant is Sushi-Kito. And now, for lovers of the original, there’s good news, because a second location is launching later this week.

Sushi-Kito is known for two things. The first is the merging of Mexican and Japanese culinary styles and flavors. The second is for having one of the largest menus in the city. The reality is, that while the restaurant markets itself as Mexican meets Japanese, you can also order pasta, burgers, and other items that fall in an entirely different culinary category. Some might argue more options are always better, others might say the more options you have the fewer good options there are. That decision is up to you. But if you’re a fan of Mexican sushi, or if you’ve been meaning to try it, the all-new location of 4380 East Speedway will make ordering that much easier.

Sushi-Kit has been going strong since 2017. In this time, it has developed a strong customer footprint, one that is almost entirely based on word of mouth. The restaurant itself does little advertising. Outside of its Instagram page, it doesn’t have an online presence either. However, with over fifty different sushi rolls to choose from, there’s plenty for people to sample whenever they stop by. The original location had to be closed temporarily due to a fire, but after moving operations to a temporary location, it managed to recover and return. Now, just a few weeks after returning, the second location will be ready to service hungry patrons on a different side of town.

There is no word yet as to what the new restaurant’s hours of operation will be, other than it is opening on Friday, August 9. However, there’s a good chance it will have hours similar to the original at 5650 South 12th Avenue (Suite 180). This location is open Monday through Friday from 1 PM until 10:45 PM and on Saturday and Sunday from 12 PM until 12:45 PM.
