America’s SBDC Iowa announces new Regional Director
AMES, Iowa – America’s SBDC Iowa (SBDC) has announced that Elizabeth Christensen is the new Regional Director for the Iowa Western SBDC at Iowa Western Community College, located in Council Bluffs. Elizbeth Christensen will advise and train entrepreneurs and existing business owners in Pottawattamie, Shelby, Harrison, Page, Mills, Cass and Fremont counties. Elizabeth started in early June and is excited to continue supporting western Iowa businesses.
Cass County Supervisors Approve ARPA Funds for Vision Atlantic Childcare Facility and Courthouse Closure During RAGBRAI
(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors officially approved a resolution allocating ARPA funds to the Vision Atlantic, LLC Childcare Facility in the amount of $150,000. Vision Atlantic plans to construct an $11.5 million new childcare facility that will serve up to 300 children. The center will sit near 18th and Olive Street, adjacent to the new Camblin Hills Housing Development.
Flash Flood Warning for Adair, Adams, and Cass Counties
(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a Flash Flood Warning for Adair, Northwestern Adams, and Southern Cass Counties until 10:15 a.m. At 4:32, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing between two and four inches of rain across the warned area. This rain is causing flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Red Oak council takes no action on fiber project
(Red Oak) -- Despite some concerns over the use of pedestals, Red Oak officials have opted to allow a fiber internet project to continue in the city's right of way. Meeting in regular session Monday night, the Red Oak City Council met with Farmers Mutual Telephone Company CEO Kevin Cabbage to hear an update on the first phase of his company's project that would bring fiber internet to roughly half of Red Oak by the end of the year and to discuss the possible action of temporarily halting the project for utilizing above ground pedestals curbside rather than buried vaults. While they have historically utilized vaults for their projects initiated before the COVID-19 pandemic, Cabbage says price changes over the last four years and the size of the current project in both Red Oak and Clarinda prompted utilizing pedestals.

(Atlantic) T-Shirts for the 2024 Coca-Cola Days Celebration are now available. Coca-Cola Days 2024 will be held September 27th & 28th in Atlantic. The event is the second largest collectors’ show in the United States and includes a tailgate barbeque open to the public, a Show, Swap & Sell, Coca-Cola themed raffle and many more activities for all ages. This year’s featured theme is, “Celebrate Together” and will be held at the Cass County Community Center.

Dr. Rizk is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon who specializes in weight loss surgery, and he has been performing laparoscopic weight loss surgeries since 2002.
